One of the primary reasons for this is that you can pray anywhere. As we read through the Old and New Testament accounts, we find that they have many references to GodвЂ™s people praying in worship. In fact, ancient Israelites were fortunate if they could go to the temple a couple of times a year.Д«y far the most common form of worship in ancient Israel was prayer. Worship as a Prayer FormД«ut how did people respond to this daily call of worship? They didnвЂ™t make sacrifices every day. And every reminder was a call to obedience and worship. The Old Testament law ordered the whole of a good IsraeliteвЂ™s life, from what he could eat to how he built his home. If followed, these commandments would have made certain that the Israelites would have thought about God no matter where they went or what they were doing.Д«ut it goes beyond merely seeing GodвЂ™s words everywhere. He told them to write scripture on their doorposts and wear it on their foreheads and hands (see Deuteronomy 6). Worship was everywhere.Д¬onsider the fact that, in the early chapters of Deuteronomy, God commanded the newly freed Israelites to talk about God with their families all of the time. And it didnвЂ™t just happen in the walls of a synagogue or church. Worship shaped how they approached everything. Worship in Old TestamentДЇor both the Israelites and early Christians, worship wasnвЂ™t something a person occasionally did. But worship prayer is much, much bigger than this. For too many people, Christian worship is little more than singing a few songs before we listen to a preacher. In many parts of modern, Western society, weвЂ™ve believed the mistaken idea that worship is something that we primarily do on Sunday mornings. And so, in truly Christian worship, we must always be aware of our frailty, weakness, and fallibility. We only worship things that are greater than ourselves. With this in mind, it should be easy for us to understand that Christian worship, first of all, includes a sense of humility on our part. And yet, when Jesus appears to him in glory, John вЂњfell at His feet like a dead manвЂќ (Revelation 1:17). Keep in mind that this is the same Jesus that John spent three years following and learning from. For example, when John receives the revelation that he records on the island of Patmos (and which becomes the last book of our Bibles), Jesus appears to him as a shining figure. This response we can find in the pages of scripture. To fall knowing that we cannot stand in the presence of someone who is so holy, pure, and powerful. When we see God for who he really is, our natural response is to fall on our face. ItвЂ™s interesting to note that in both Hebrew and Greek, the words for worship translate вЂњbow down.вЂќ Worship is our reverence for God.ДЄs I said in the last chapter, worship is turning to God and recognizing him for who he really is. LetвЂ™s take a moment to examine what the Bible says about these two, highly important subjects:Д¬hristian worship prayer happens every time we express reverence or adoration toward God. WeвЂ™ve noted already that prayer is the only means we have of communicating with our Creator.Д«ut what about worship and praise? In the Christian world, we hear these words thrown around an awful lot, but what do they really mean?
